Footballs is a socio-political look at the different relationships that football brings in Brazil. In 2023, finally the General Sports Law was sanctioned by the congress, regulating sports practice in the country for the first time ever. The documentary dives into three different football universes in Brazil, all of them at the outskirts of the society, bringing different and powerful realities of how football is a great tool for social development. In the Quilombo of the backlands of Pernambuco, on the favelas of Santo André or in the floodplains of the East Zone of São Paulo, football never stops happening. Neither the mud of the floodplains, nor the potholed asphalt nor socio-economic difficulties were able to prevent or motivate the practice of this sport. It was never just about football.
